Rebecca Tappin at Middleton Lodge
Portrait by Cecelina Tornberg
Rebecca has helped me realise my dreams. She has a way of taking my crazy ideas, putting flesh on them and turning them into reality - and it’s that attention to detail that drives the beauty you see here at Middleton Lodge.

About

Rebecca Tappin : founder

Creative Director, Architect & Interior Designer

For over a decade, I led the Creative Direction of Middleton Lodge Estate, transforming the historic Yorkshire property into one of the UK’s most distinctive boutique destinations. My work included the design and concept for two restaurants (one Michelin-starred), the award winning Forest Spa, 58 bespoke bedrooms, and the Fig House (now a nationally recognised wedding venue). From architecture and interiors to guest experience, brand and narrative, every element was intentionally designed to feel effortless and memorable.

Before this, I worked at Michaelis Boyd, the design-led London architecture studio behind Soho Farmhouse and Babington House, where I gained experience in both hospitality and high-end residential design in London and the Cotswolds. I studied architecture at the Bartlett and RIBA studio, and prior to that, a degree in history, which comes through in my passion for renovating characterful buildings and country estates.

My approach is collaborative, intuitive, and grounded in creative vision, brand direction, and sensory detail. Whether designing a building, a room, or a guest journey, or building the brand story, I begin by asking:

What is the lasting impression we want to create? How do you want this space to make you feel?
